Five Minutes With Lilith Hudson.

Writer Lilith Hudson against a white wall

Lilith Hudson - Freelance Writer

1.What is your current occupation?

In true Rory Gilmore fashion, I was determined to become a writer. I studied for a Master's in magazine journalism at City, University of London, and landed my first job as a staff writer at the interiors magazine, Livingetc. I started there immediately after finishing my degree (just a few days after handing in my final project, in fact). I stayed for a couple of years, working my way up to News and Trends Editor, but when I moved out of London I decided to make the leap and fly solo. I've now been working as a freelance journalist for the last six months. My roots are still firmly in the world of homes and interiors, but I saw this as an opportunity to branch out into different content areas and find new beats. I now cover the odd bit of travel and, as a keen trail runner and hiker, I write regular running and adventure articles, too. As they say, everything is content!

2. What's your best advice for PR professionals?

Get to know journalists! I wasn't really aware of the intrinsic relationship between journos and PRs before entering the industry, but you guys make my job possible. Journalists' inboxes tend to be flooded though, so it always helps to put a face to a name. I can reel off the best PRs I work with by name and match them to the accounts they work on, all because they took the time to introduce themselves and tell me about the brands they represent.

3. What's a fun fact about you?

I went to the same school as Ed Sheeran! We even had the same form tutor (albeit several years apart!) The Castle on the Hill music video featured a lot of my classmates (I auditioned, but sadly didn't make the cut!) and he often frequents our local pub with celebrity friends. Rumor has it Taylor Swift once visited...

4. Tell us about your favorite nonprofit and why it's important to you.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity close to my heart. They offer medical, financial, and emotional support to people affected by cancer. Research into this awful disease is undoubtedly vital, but nurses aren't given enough credit for the face-to-face care and support they give patients. The Macmillan nurses were a lifeline while my Dad was undergoing treatment, and three of my grandparents were supported by Macmillan while they were ill, too.

5. Tell us about your favorite meal, movie, and / or vacation spot.

I've been skiing in BC, Canada, with my partner's family for the past seven years. We go to a small resort called Silver Star and it's always the highlight of my winter. England is cold and wet, but I can handle the cold if snow's involved! I always prefer to be out and about on vacations, and there's no better way to explore a mountain than taking to the slopes.
