Five Minutes With Arielle Tschinkel.

Arielle Tschinkel - Freelance Lifestyle Writer

  1. Tell us about your current occupation and how you landed such a fabulous job.

I'm a freelance lifestyle writer who has contributed to a slew of digital and print outlets, including SHAPE, Scary Mommy, Women's Health, Apartment Therapy, Oprah Daily, and many others. My path to freelance writing was long, windy, and bumpy after I started my career as an executive assistant and in marketing. I pivoted to freelance writing eight years ago and started from the ground up, writing for a horror movie blog for free (eek!) before finding my footing in health/wellness, pop culture, beauty, and fashion.

  2. What's your best advice for PR professionals?

From the freelance writing side, it's tough for me because I don't have as much control as staff writers and editors might, so I would say remaining patient and understanding is always helpful. I want to help you, but sometimes my hands are simply tied!

  3. What's a fun fact about you?

Ten years ago, my first full-time job out of college unexpectedly landed me smack in the middle of a political scandal called Bridgegate. I was the executive assistant to the "architect" behind the lane closures, so even though I had nothing to do with it, I was subpoenaed a bunch of times, was interviewed by the FBI, and even testified in front of a grand jury all before I hit my mid-twenties.

  4. Tell us about your favorite nonprofit.

Now more than ever, LGBTQ+ youth and adults of all ages need our loud and proud support, so I really respect and admire the work that The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center does in the burbs of NYC. Having access to resources and care, as well as a safe landing spot, is so important for our most marginalized neighbors, and I love the tireless work they do.

  5. What's your favorite meal, movie, or vacation spot?

My all-time favorite movie is “Clueless.” I can recite the movie by heart and if I hear or see something that reminds me of it, my internal voice will start reciting scenes line-by-line. Is it weird and nerdy of me to admit that? As if!
